PRE ORDER: Haydn's Surprise - Sebastian Wienand (CD)

A single stroke of the timpani gave Symphony No. 94 it's nickname, but Haydn's art of surprise goes far beyond a single effect. From the Divertimento in E-flat major to the Piano Concerto in D major and the celebrated Surprise Symphony, Sebastian Wienand and the Freiburger Barockorchester, led from the violin by Gottfried von der Goltz, explore the contrasts, unexpected harmonic turns and instrumental dialogues that characterise his writing. Moving between harpsichord and fortepiano, Wienand brings out Haydn's wit, spontaneity and unpredictability.
