PRE ORDER: Toward The Dawn - Stile Antico (CD)

Toward the Dawn is a musical journey from twilight to sunrise, performed by the twelve-voice, conductorless vocal ensemble Stile Antico. The programme draws on the rhythms of church liturgy and the medieval experience of night, which the notes describe as both seductive and unsettling. Moving from Compline and Tenebrae through restless insomnia to the morning service of Lauds, it includes Allegri's Miserere, whose celebrated high passage the notes call an accident of history, and Nico Muhly's Gentle Sleep, written for the group in 2015. The album ends with Taverner's Ave Dei patris filia, leaving the listener 'suffused in golden light.'
